Artist Crochets Amazing Life-Size Replica of Local Woman Walking Her Dog

Yarn artist Liisa Hietanen reimagines the everyday world through her life-sized knitted and crocheted sculptures. In a series of ambitious textile projects, she has created replicas of her fellow villagers in Hämeenkyrö, Finland. Hietanen uses metal armatures as her base and then covers them in a combination of crafting techniques; what results are figures that have an uncanny, life-like quality. From afar, you can hardly tell they were crafted from a spun fiber.

For millennia, sculptors have worked in marble, a medium favored for its softness and translucence. These characteristics make the metamorphic rock particularly suited for pieces requiring intricate detail, including anatomical subtleties and flowing drapery. Artist Sculpts One-Of-A-Kind Electric Guitar Body from 1,200 Colored Pencils

You could draw with colored pencils, but these tiny tools can do more than that—they can also be art themselves! From hand-carved sculptures to brilliantly patterned jewelry, we’ve seen many talented makers transform the art box staple into incredible creations. Inspired by this unusual art form, an artist known as Flyjumper on Reddit (or Burls Art on YouTube) recently built his own custom electric guitar, using 1,200 colored pencils for the body.

Amazing Engineer Transforms Ordinary Sheets of Paper into Tactile Tessellations

Artist Matthew Shlian transforms ordinary sheets of paper into incredible three-dimensional tessellations. Using a series of complex, repeating folds, Shlian’s paper sculptures take on a life of their own. Many feature spikes that jut from a flattened surface and the individual elements are positioned to move in giant waves across the entire piece. Previously, Shlian’s work was clad in a black-and-white color palette.
