Oil Paintings that Resemble Woven Yarn

What do you think you're looking at? Crochet art? Not quite. Toronto-based artist Caroline Larsen creates oil paintings that perfectly resemble woven yarn! I could not believe my eyes because, at first glance, her paintings tricked my eyes into believing I was looking at something entirely different! Larsen's work explores the perception of space, paint and surface texture, The Cheaper Show explains. It's certainly nothing short of magical!

Bear Made of 20,000 Zip Ties

Whoever said you can make art out of anything was right! Design Office Takebayashi Scroggin (also known as d.o.t.s.) created the Zip Tie Massimal, a life-size installation made entirely from 20,000 standard zip ties! As you can tell, it's a striking recreation of a bear. The installation is anchored to the ceiling by a cable suspension system. When illuminated, it produces a beautiful glow. How I'd love to see this in person.

Chaotic Putty Installation at Venice Biennale

Called the “Olympics of Art,” the Venice Biennale brings together some of the best contemporary artists from around the world, making it a must-visit art show at least once in a person's lifetime. (In other words, let's add it to the bucket list.) This year, it opened to the public on June 4 and it will run until November 27. The Venice Biennale takes place only once every two years (in odd years)

Great Advice for Creatives

Sometimes, all we need…all we seek…is encouragement….some good advice. Here's Ira Glass, an American public radio personality, and host and producer of the radio and television show This American Life, sharing what he's learned throughout the years. It's applicable to anyone who's pursuing a creative path. Listen to Glass speak these words (and then some) in this great video. It's inspiring…to say the least. Love his self-deprecating humor.
