Over 100 street artists, including names you're already familiar with like Vhils and C215, have come together to be a part of the largest street art exhibition ever created. Called Tour 13, it consists of a nine-story social housing tower and its 36 apartments that have had their drab ceilings, walls and floors transformed into one massive, colorful exhibition space. The international artists have covered almost every inch of the building with spray cans and stencil while some, like French artist Sambre, assembled old doors and window frames to create a surreal Alice in Wonderland-type space.
As the photographer behind these shots, Meredith Mullins, told us, “The project is like nothing I've ever seen before. In fact, I've been dreaming about it ever since I spent hours there a few days ago. The art is absolutely incredible. You get swallowed up by it, since it surrounds you–from bathrooms to closets to walls and floors. Every room is different. The spirit of street art lives!”
Open free to the public for only a month, October 1 to October 30, Tour 13 is one of those unique exhibitions that you have to see before it's gone. The building is destined to be demolished, but the artists involved seem to be comfortable with the idea that their works will be destroyed along with the building.
“It's part of life, you do something for the others, once it's done, they see it, they like and it vanishes,” Chilean-born Inti Castro told the WSJ. “There is no feeling of property for my art.”
