Its sleek minimalistic black and white interior makes this quite the contradiction, considering that the house was originally built during the Victorian era – a time of over-the-top detail and decoration. The modern interior has hints of the natural world. For example, near the stairs there is a central courtyard with a banksia tree that gives life to the simple design surrounding. Also, it has strategically placed windows that offer natural light. This is how it received its name, Skylight House. These windows not only provide natural light, but also offer views of the Parramatta River in Sydney, Australia.
This is no ordinary home. In fact, it won the Australian Institute of Architects, NSW Chapter Award 2011 Residential Architecture Award for Alterations and Additions. Wouldn't you love to live here?
