Therianthropes is a series by photographer and graphic designer Ulric Collette that presents portraits of people that are half-man, half-animal. Best known for his Genetic Portraits series, which features split portraits of two different family members, the Quebec-based photographer combines two entirely different beings in this collection that goes beyond familial bonds and genetic relations. In fact, the merged subjects span the animal kingdom.
Like something straight out of mythology, Collette's imagined creatures blur the lines between species and cross over into their own class of hybrid breeds. There's a fairly clear boundary between the animal head and the human body, yet the portraits are somehow believable in their execution. If anything, these people seem to be caught in mid-transformation as they shape shift between their animal and human selves.
