Thousands of Staples Form Elaborate Star Wars Mosaics

Many artists love to incorporate Star Wars themes into their work. We have seen dramatic LEGO recreations, a 30-foot long hand-stitched tapestry, and Star Wars characters invading Thomas Kinkade paintings. And now, New York City artist James Haggerty has found a way to develop a series of incredibly detailed Star Wars character mosaics using organized patterns of multicolored staples.

Amnesty International Freedom Candles Burn as a Symbol of Hope

Amnesty International Freedom Candles are a set of limited edition candles, designed by Mark Landwehr & Sven Waschk of Coarse, that were developed as a fundraiser for Amnesty International. Each of the three candles represents an injustice that Amnesty International continues to fight against. As the candles melt, the injustice disintegrates before our eyes and a more positive story is revealed underneath the wax in the form of a solid bronze cast.

Otherworldly Light Installation Alters Perceptions of Reality

Within the space of a large trailer, artist Candas Sisman produced a beautifully illuminated space that seems otherworldly. Using strong light sources, lenses, a convex mirror, a fog machine, and a sound system, the Istanbul-based artist transformed perceptions of space into an unending abyss of light. The installation, entitled I/P/O-cle (I–Input, P–Process, O–Output, cle–Cycle), is an exploration of how people perceive their surrounding worlds.

Spectacular Macro Details Reveal the Intimate Life of Snails

These spectacular photographs reveal the amazingly tiny details of the life of snails. Using a macro approach, Ukrainian photographer Vyacheslav Mishchenko gets up close and personal to capture a variety of miniature landscapes as the little creatures go about their daily lives. With great patience and a steady hand, the artist obtains crisp, sharp details that seem unbelievable when viewers consider how small the scenes really are in comparison to our everyday surroundings.
