Sleep in a Giant Clamshell Villa at This Unique Island Resort in the Philippines

This proposal for the redevelopment of Tawi-Tawi’s island resort is characterized by massive clamshells that act as a roof over some villas. Designed by dada, the proposal includes villas, a restaurant, clubhouse, and new reception area. Though the clamshell is beautiful as a functional architectural feature, it also acts as a celebration of local culture. The clamshell form is elegantly abstracted to provide shade around each entrance to the villas.

Architects Design “99 Islands in the Sky” Floating in Mid-Air Over Qianhai Bay

This tower proposal by Sou Fujimoto Architects imagines 99 incredible floating islands that soar about 880 feet above the water. The design was completed as part of Qianhai’s New City Center Landmark competition, an invitation-based competition for a new monument on Shenzhen’s Qianhai Bay. This new project would celebrate Shenzhen and the Qianhai district’s recent rapid urban development.

‘Sky Pool’ Allows Some Residents To Swim High Above This London Street

Swimmers who live in two buildings at the Embassy Gardens development in Battersea, London now have access to a pretty incredible swimming experience. HAL Architects has connected two residential buildings with a completely transparent swimming pool bridge that provides unobstructed views of the ground below. Sky Pool allows residents to swim across 82 feet of acrylic, as long as they are okay with looking down at the 115-foot drop.

This Observation Tower Design Literally Anchors Two Tectonic Plates in Iceland

Design studio 00group has released imagery of an ambitious new landmark for Iceland. Known as Anchor of the Plates, the plan includes a set of monumental towers connected via a bridge that crosses a fissure in the northern part of the country. Though the towers are iconic characters on the site, the design celebrates the natural landscape; it specifically emphasizes vogagjá, an old bathing site that's been called “Iceland's best-kept secret.
