Hundreds of Colorful Umbrellas Float Above a Charming Passageway in Paris

Le Village Royal, a boutique-lined passageway in Paris, is always popular with window shoppers. Now, however, this high-end alleyway is attracting foot traffic from all walks of life, thanks to an awe-inspiring installation by Sextafeira Produções. Featuring 800 polychromatic parapluies, or “umbrellas,” floating overhead, the Umbrella Sky Project takes public art to new heights. When visitors enter Le Village Royal, they are dazzled by a magical, multicolored canopy of open umbrellas.

Artist Uses Japanese Art of Kintsugi to Turn Cracked Eggshells into Delicate Works of Art

Translated to “golden joinery,” Kintsugi is the art of repairing cracked pottery with glistening seams of gold. Though the practice dates back to the 15th century, contemporary artists are constantly finding new ways to reimagine the centuries-old craft, from pieced-together pavements to patchwork chopstick holders. One adaptation that captures the symbolic spirit of the practice is Kintsugi Eggshells, an ongoing collection of exquisite installations by Elisa Sheehan.

Sunlight on This Street Installation Casts Shadow Messages About Passage of Time

Indian street artist DAKU recently unveiled an immersive shadow art installation in Panjim, Goa. Titled Theory of Time, the incredible street-long piece features a net of suspended letters that create typographic shadows on the concrete floor, when sunlight shines down on it during the day. The letters spell out phrases related to the passage of time, such as “Time works wonders” and “Time is an illusion.

NYC Subway Station Gets Redesigned with Colorful Dog Mosaics

In the 1970s, artist William Wegman adopted his first Weimaraner. Fittingly named Man Ray, this dog played a pivotal role in the evolution of Wegman's creative practice. Not only did the pup prompt the artist to turn his attention from painting to photography, but he also inspired Wegman's most well-known works: portraits of Weimaraners wearing clothing.
