Amazing Pixelated Portraits Made Out of Carefully Arranged Paint Swatches

At first, these pixelated artworks seem computer generated. In fact, they are actually handcrafted pieces created by San Francisco-based visual artist Peter Combe. Each work involves meticulously arranged paint swatches organized into detailed portraits. In his work, the artist plays with light and space. He layers the colorful swatches together to build the illusion of images that appear to move and change depending on the viewer's perspective.

Ai Weiwei Uses 1.2 Million LEGO Bricks to Create Intricate Portraits of Prisoners of Conscience

If there's one thing Ai Weiwei knows about, it's being an unlawfully detained prisoner of conscience. The artist and activist, who is currently not allowed to leave his home country of China, recently unveiled Trace, a powerful new installation that consists of 176 LEGO portraits of political prisoners and exiles from around the world.

Beautifully Crafted Insects Made Out of Recycled Paper

Beautiful paper art can take on many forms, including incredible 3D drawings, stretchable stone-like busts, and elaborate hand-cut illustrations. Recently, Belgium-based ad agency Soon used paper as the medium for yet another unexpected product–playful little insects. Each sculpture was handcrafted out of recycled materials, photographed, and used in a brochure to advertise company IGEPA Benelux's new line of recycled papers.

Glowing Interactive Circular Swings Change Colors with Motion

For the next few months, this interactive Swing Time installation on The Lawn on D in Boston invites residents and visitors to sit back and relax while swinging in one of 20 glowing hammocks. The temporary project was created by Hweler + Yoon Architecture and was developed as a way to “create a new type of city park” where everyone is invited to gather and play or exercise.
