Boatload of 99 Animals Sail Down River in Shanghai to Illustrate Environmental Crisis

New York-based, Chinese-born artist Cai Guo-Qiang is back with The Ninth Wave, his newest installation and solo exhibition in Shanghai. Reminiscent of his work last year, which consisted of 99 life-sized fake animals gathered around a watering hole, The Ninth Wave features a weathered fishing boat from Cai's hometown of Quanzhou carrying 99 fabricated animals onboard. Artificial pandas, tigers, camels, and other beasts cling to the worn ship, appearing weary and seasick.

Incredibly Dynamic Steel Wire Fairy Sculptures Dance in the Wind

UK-based artist Robin Wight uses stainless steel wire to form stunning, dramatic sculptures of winged fairies dancing in the wind. The enchanting forms, which range in size from miniature to life-sized, seem to have a life of their own as they strike dynamic poses, contort their bodies, and hold onto windswept dandelions. To construct his ethereal sculptures, Wight first builds a sturdy skeleton out of thick steel wire.

Enormous Murals Inspired by Local Traders in Warwick, South Africa

This year, street artist Faith47 was invited to participate in the 25th World Congress on Architecture in Durban, South Africa. As a cultural aspect of the event, the artist recently finished three of six planned pieces (the last three to be completed in August), which cover supporting columns underneath a main freeway overpass near the Early Morning Market in Warwick. According to the artist, Warwick triangle is often chaotic and many are afraid to visit the area.

Flóra Borsi’s Elegant Self-Portraits Subtly Blend Photography and Painting

Hungarian artist Flóra Borsi likes to experiment with photography and other mediums, resulting in incredibly unique projects like urban landscapes set in a coffee universe and abstract portraits reimagined as real people. Her latest series IREL features subtle portraits that simultaneously look like pictorial photos and hyperrealistic paintings. Both sensual and elegant, the images portray the artist herself posing against a simple blue backdrop.
