The Secret Life of Heroes by Gregoire Guillemin

We've been fans of French artist Gregoire Guillemin for quite some time. In the past, we featured many of his superhero themed series such as his retro-modern superhero illustrations as well as his smooth, minimalist superhero work. Lately, Guillemin has been working on a hilarious new series called The Secret Life of Heroes. The funny and sexy illustrations feature both heroes and villains in ways we've never seen them before.

Glock 19 Bodyhammer is a powerful series by artist Robert Longo that gives the first-person viewpoint of someone with a gun pointed right at them. At first, viewers of the images may interpret the symmetrical, geometric portraits as abstract works of art. However, upon realizing that one is looking down the barrel of a gun, they are met with a sinking feeling.

Artist Creates Body Designs with Her Sensitive Skin Disorder

For artist Ariana Page Russell, a light scratch on her body turns into swollen, reddish, raised skin. This allergic reaction is due to a medical condition known as dermatographia. Rather than shying away from her affliction and seeking to conceal it, Russell exposes her skin disorder in a visually arresting way for her series titled Skin.

Towering Spider Sculpture Reflects a Mother’s Strength

Maman is an incredible, intimidating sculpture resembling a giant spider by the late French-American sculptor Louise Bourgeois (aka Spiderwoman). The towering structure, whose title translates as Mother in French, is an homage to the artist's own mother who passed away when she was 21 years old.
