Innovative ‘Plan Bee’ Drone Artificially Pollinates Plants Like a Real Bee

Earlier this year, major news hit the conservation world as several species of bees were listed as endangered. The news serves as a grave reminder to help restore the rapidly declining bee population; the small insects play a crucial part in our world by pollinating plants. In North America alone, the honeybees' role enables productions of at least 90 commercially-grown crops, including apples, blueberries, melons, and broccoli.

Quarter-Mile-Long Mirrored Poles Installation Reflects the Changing Tides

Stretching a quarter mile down Laguna Beach, Phillip K. Smith III‘s art installation 1/4 Mile Arc created a glittering spectacle along the sand. 250 stainless steel posts, polished to a mirrored sheen, were spaced evenly in a gentle arc along the coastline. Over a period of 4 days, curious beach goers and art lovers discovered how the light and color of sand and surf illuminated the poles.

Designer Grows Trees as Artistic Furniture Straight From the Ground

Using what he calls “Zen 3D printing,” designer Gavin Munro is challenging notions of traditional furniture design. Instead of chopping down mature trees to saw and nail into chairs and tables, his company Full Grown actually grows furniture from the ground up. Trees are strategically planted, grafted, and shaped into specific structures. When harvested, they're already elegant furniture pieces.
