‘Sculpture by the Sea’ Exhibit Turns Australian Coastline Into an Open-Air Museum

For the 22nd year, Sydney's Bondi Beach has been invaded by incredible pieces of sculpture. This year, Sculpture by the Sea welcomes over 130 artists from 21 countries who have created an open-air exhibition through their contemporary sculpture. The event, which was started by volunteers in 1997, draws large crowds over the course of its three-week run. For the 2018 edition, numerous international artists joined 70 Australian sculptors participating in the event.

Traveling Giant Moon Installation Continues to Dazzle Viewers Around the World

Since the dawn of mankind, people have been fascinated with the moon—whether as a religious deity to ancient Romans and Greeks or as the focus of the “Space Race” between the United States and the Soviet Union. One artist to honor Earth’s satellite is British installation artist Luke Jerram, who has been traveling the globe with his lunar-inspired exhibition, Museum of the Moon. Suspended Layers of Colorful “Pixels” in Ancient Greek Ruins

Hanover and Berlin-based artists Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic (together known as Quintessenz) create site-specific installation art made from a combination of materials. For their latest project, the duo transformed a derelict stone building on the Greek island of Paxos as part of the Paxos Contemporary Art Project. The 400-year-old ruin was filled with layers of colorful spray-painted fabric, creating an abstract spectrum of rainbow hues.

Japanese Art Installation Lets Visitors Step Into a Living Dream World

Japanese digital art collective teamLab is known for creating epic digital art installations that immerse viewers and bring dream-like experiences to life. Their latest project, teamLab Planets TOKYO in Toyosu, presents a number of the collective’s best “body immersive” works, spanning across a 10,000-square-meter (approximately 107,640 square feet) exhibition space. Made using digital technology, many of the installations are designed to transform based upon viewer interactions.
