Interview: Cinematic Photos Capture the Traditional and Modern Essence of Tokyo

Dutch cinematographer and photographer Stijn Hoekstra recently traveled to Tokyo, where he captured Japan's capital from a cinematic perspective. With muted tones and unexpected compositions, his photographs reveal a Tokyo far from the neon-soaked snaps that typically exemplify the city. Having studied cinematography, spending time as a camera assistant on both big budget and independent films after graduation, Hoekstra fell into photography after shooting behind-the-scenes images as gifts for the crew.

The 21-year-old artist can spend anywhere from a few hours to several months retouching each image in Photoshop. Photographer Travels Around the World to Capture the Unique Beauty of Red Hair

Entertainment photographer Brian Dowling has photographed famous redheads like Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams, but his newest project focuses on the beauty of everyday female redheads. Dowling, an American photographer based in Berlin, spent three summers visiting 20 countries, where he shot portraits of more than 130 women with red hair. His aim is to show the beauty and diversity in this rarest of hair colors.

Portraits of Tokyo’s Fascinating Rockabilly Subculture Amongst Roller-Zoku Gangs

Photographer Denny Renshaw grew up in Tennessee, one of the birthplaces of the 1950s Rockabilly movement. Therefore it was only fitting that he fly across the world to immortalize the Japanese subculture influenced by this era. Zoku, which translates to tribe or clan, is used in Japanese to denote their many subculture phenomena. A trip to Tokyo's Yoyogi Park in the Harajuku district and you'll get a taste of the myriad subcultures the city offers.
