Take a Look at the Most Detailed Map of Mars Photographed From Earth

Using photos taken at the Pic du Midi Observatory, astrophotographer Jean-Luc Dauvergne has published what he calls the most detailed map of Mars from the ground. The photographs were taken at the mountaintop observatory, which is located in the French Pyrenees, over the course of six nights in October and November using a 1-meter telescope. The team then sewed together hundreds of photos to put together this incredible map.

Powerful Portraits of Native Americans Highlight Their Spirit and Cultural Identity [Interview]

Photographer Craig Varjabedian is known for his stunning portrait series celebrating the lives and cultures of Native Americans. The Native Light Photo Collaboration project sees Varjabedian working with Indigenous people around New Mexico to create photographs that highlight their spirit. By working together, photographer and model have equal control and, therefore, the images avoid the exploitation that can sometimes occur in this genre of photography.

20 Incredible Winning Images From the 2020 International Landscape Photographer of the Year Contest

For the seventh year, the International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition highlights the beauty of our environment. Over 3,800 breathtaking images flooded in from photographers around the world, giving the judges a tough decision. In the end, it was 24-year-old photographer Kelvin Yuen from Hong Kong who was named International Landscape Photographer of the Year for his strong portfolio. Yuen took up photography just six years ago, which makes his win even more impressive.

Amazing Finalists of Ocean Photography Awards Pay Homage to the Stunning Seas

If the finalists are any indication, the inaugural Ocean Photography Awards, presented by Oceanographic Magazine, is off to a great start. Over 3,000 entries were whittled down to 100 finalists across six categories. Dealing with issues of conservation, as well as showing off adventures and exploration, these finalist images are a beautiful cross-section of ocean photography. The finalists include familiar names like Florian Ledoux, whose work in the Arctic frequently wins awards.
