Fan Ho’s Striking Street Photography of Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s

A little over two and a half years after his untimely passing, master photographer Fan Ho is being celebrated with a new exhibition. As a photographer, actor, and film director, Ho amassed enormous acclaim over the course of his career, which began when he was a teenager. At the time, Ho used his father's Kodak Brownie to capture the world around him, as he roamed the streets of Hong Kong.

Enveloped by chilling temperatures during the winter, the city is the backdrop for his work, which documents the daily lives of those around him. Yakutsk is the capital of Yakutia, an enormous Far Eastern federal district known for its extreme weather.

Photographer Visualizes Hearing Loss as Artistically Blurred Street Photography

Viewing his photos as paintings, Chilean photographer Eduardo Asenjo Matus has a unique technique for capturing the spirit of his environment. Using a neutral density filter, he employs long exposures to focus in on his primary subject, leaving the rest in an artistic blur. The former graphic design and architecture student started this series, The Sound of Silence, in 2015 as a way to reflect his own emotions.

Street Photographer Captures Candid Photos of New York From 1969 to 2006

Since the late 1960s, native New Yorker Jeff Rothstein has been documenting his hometown. Wandering the streets with his 35 mm camera, he was able to photograph and preserve a New York that “no longer exists.” Rothstein works exclusively in black and white, giving his street photography a timeless feel that can sometimes make it difficult to understand if we're looking at a scene from 1979 or 1999.
