Japanese Artist Creates Animal Sculptures Made From Metallic Flowers

Japanese artist Taiichiro Yoshida uses traditional metalworking techniques to create flower-encrusted animal sculptures made from bronze, copper, and silver. In Japan, the ancient craft of decorative hot metalworking began sometime during the fourth century, and it’s a skill that has been passed down through generations of craftsman. The process involves carefully beating the hot metal into a malleable medium that can then be moulded into intricate motifs.

Incredible 3D Portraits Made of Over 20,000 Screws

Artist, graphic designer, and self-proclaimed daydreamer Bruce Mackley is the creative mind behind a duo of incredible 3D portraits, respectively titled Descent and Turning Away. The artist used thousands of tinted decking and framing screws for each piece, drilling them in at varying depths for texture. This proves especially appealing for blind art-goers who are encouraged to touch his works and thereby create a mental image of each piece.

Masterfully Carved Wood Sculpture of a Submerged Man with a Pixelated Glitch

As is typical of his work, this new sculpture features strategic pixelated blocks emerging from the figurative statue, an old world technique meeting hints of new world technology.

Giant White Horse Leaps Toward a Girl in Amazing Venice Biennale Installation

The 57th Venice International Art Biennale opened on May 13, and already the Argentinian Pavillion is causing a stir. Housed in the mammoth Arsenal building, Claudia Fontes‘ The Horse Problem is quickly becoming one of the art event's most photographed art installations. The large-scale sculpture group depicts a girl gently caressing the nose of a powerful horse frozen in movement. The Argentinian artist looked to several sources of inspiration for the work.
