“Geode Hair” Trend Adds Pops of Color Hidden within Natural Hair

Hair color inspiration can come from the most unlikely of places. From Mermaid-hued locks to hairstyles that resemble famous works of art, the world-at-large seems to be fodder for these stunning color choices. Geode hair is one the latest trends that incorporates the shiny, iridescent qualities of these spectacular rocks and translates them onto your head. Like the crystals themselves, there are a bevy of spectacular possibilities for both hue and application.

If you can't picture a geode, imagine that it’s a small rock lined with crystals or minerals inside. They begin as bubbles in sedimentary rock, and over missions of years the outer shells harden and the right conditions allow the crystals to form. When cracked open to reveal their layers of minerals, the sight is dazzling.

Similarly, geode hair incorporates this multi-faceted aspect by having many different colors in one hairstyle. When the wearer moves their head, more of the hues are revealed. Hair by Muriel provides a great example of this—beneath a blanket of brown hair, she’s dyed her client’s locks a brilliant sapphire. It’s like cracking open a real geode, where the crystals are concealed beneath an ordinary rock surface. Here, the vibrant hair color is only shown once the wearer moves her conventional coloring out of the way.
