Beautiful Vintage Light Bulbs Feature Luminous Floral Filaments

LED light bulbs are all the rage nowadays, but you can’t beat the timeless beauty of vintage filaments. Between the late 1930s and into the 1970s, the Aerolux Light Corporation produced novelty bulbs with tiny sculptures inside. These decorative filaments take the shapes of flowers and birds which are electrically illuminated in a variety of vibrant colors. To construct these bulbs, Aerolux used low-pressure gas in their filaments—either neon, argon, or both.

Famous Songs Hilariously Reinterpreted as Witty One-Panel Cartoons

Cartoonist Hugleikur Dagsson hilariously reinterprets the meaning of some of the world’s most popular songs. Ranging from timeless Christmas carols to chart-topping hits, the Icelandic artist uses them as inspiration for his deceptively simple-yet-clever line drawings. As a result, their biting wit puts a whole new spin on the melodies we thought we knew. These one-panel cartoons are ripe with parody. Dagsson takes a snippet of a song—such as its title—and builds a whole stick-figure world around it.

Upside Down Christmas Tree Hangs in the Halls of Tate Britain

Every December, the Tate Britain debuts its much-anticipated Christmas tree. Designed by a different contemporary artist each year, the famed museum’s trees are both yuletide decorations and works of modern art. This year, Iranian installation artist Shirazeh Houshiary has quite literally turned the tradition on its head with her upside-down evergreen. Suspended by its trunk, the tree hovers above the main entrance’s stunning spiral staircase.
