Danish architects Bjarke Ingels Group have won an international competition to design a new town hall in Tallinn, Estonia.
Within the cluster of administrative buildings, various public departments form a porous canopy above the public service market place allowing daylight to permeate the structure.
In an effort to echo the transparency of a democratic government, the design for the new town hall of Tallinn will provide transparency in a very literal way. With large panoramic windows arranged around a public square, citizens will be able to see their representatives at work. At the same time, public officials will be able to look out and into the market place to make sure the city and its citizens are never out of sight nor mind.
