Pinar Noorata (she/her) is the Editorial Director at My Modern Met. She is a writer, editor, and content creator based in Brooklyn, New York. She earned her BA in Film and Media Studies from CUNY Hunter College. She has worked at major TV, film, and publishing companies as well as other independent media businesses. She also runs her own art & culture newsletter called The High Low. She first joined the My Modern Met team in 2011 as a Contributing Writer, pitching and publishing articles about a wide range of topics. Her expertise in visual media lends itself to in-depth analysis of varied art forms, including but not limited to painting, illustration, sculpture, installation, design, and photography. Pinar has a particular affinity for spotlighting up-and-coming artists, affording them a platform and offering a voice to lesser-heard individuals looking to break through, especially BIPOC creatives. She has helped multiple artists make a name for themselves and reach a wider audience over 10+ years as a writer and editor (both through long-form articles and short-form videos). When she isn’t writing, editing, or creating videos herself, Pinar enjoys watching films and TV, reading, crafting, drawing, frequenting museums and galleries, and volunteering at her local animal shelter.

What if Other Planets Replaced Earth’s Moon?

Space enthusiast, artist, and writer Ron Miller questions what the night sky would look like if the moon was replaced by one of our solar system's planets. His collection of manipulated images station planets, from the relatively minute Mercury to the enormous Jupiter, in place of Earth's moon. The simulated photos take into account the distance of the moon from Earth (approximately 240,000 miles) and re-imagine the natural satellite as its own celestial body.

New Intricately Detailed Graphite Drawings by Joe Fenton

London-based artist Joe Fenton continues to mesmerize us with his skilled hand and imaginative mind at work on the latest addition to his ongoing series titled The Landing. The artist has just recently completed the second and biggest panel of his large-scale triptych. The first two of his three-part drawings feature his signature monochromatic style in graphite on paper. Like his past works, Fenton's tri-paneled project is meticulously crafted by hand.

Surreal Blossoming Head Sculptures Made of Wax

London-based artist Rebecca Stevenson creates figurative sculptures that blossom into surreal structures. Her multimedia figures, primarily constructed out of wax, incorporate floral motifs. The artists produces realistic renderings of heads paired with unconventional patterns and colors that burst out from the temple of her bodiless subjects. Stevenson transforms her sculpted heads into intriguingly abstract structures by crinkling and flowering out the resin rather than simply encasing the structure.

Painter Erika Pochybova-Johnson is an untrained artist that relies on her intuition when painting her incredibly colorful figurative and abstract works. The artist's festive color palette allows each image to explode with energy. Her series of tree paintings are especially intriguing due to her artistic choice to save that burst of multihued liveliness for the roots of her subjects.
