Interview: Artist Keeps Community Cultures Alive Through Vibrant Mural Art

When artist Clinton Bopp moved to Los Angeles twenty years ago, he was immediately struck by the city’s powerful tradition of public art. Murals filled with symbolism tell the history of the city’s cultures, particularly for Latino and African American communities. Though LA enacted a ban on murals in 2003, it was lifted ten years later and the city resumed its role as a thriving hub for public art.

‘Sculpture by the Sea’ Exhibit Turns Australian Coastline Into an Open-Air Museum

For the 22nd year, Sydney's Bondi Beach has been invaded by incredible pieces of sculpture. This year, Sculpture by the Sea welcomes over 130 artists from 21 countries who have created an open-air exhibition through their contemporary sculpture. The event, which was started by volunteers in 1997, draws large crowds over the course of its three-week run. For the 2018 edition, numerous international artists joined 70 Australian sculptors participating in the event.

Playful Dioramas Offer a Peek Into the Colorful Personalities Under the Sea

Artist Céline Chevrel encases entire worlds beneath glass. Her ocean-inspired diorama art features layered cut paper creatures nestled among colorful environments that are rich in detail. Calling them “curious boxes,” her small sculptures feature layers of cut paper that offer a 3D peek into the lives of whales, jellyfish, piranhas, and much more. Chevrel uses her skills as a children’s book illustrator to tell stories inside of her dioramas.
