Japanese Town Creates Massive Minecraft-Inspired Design for Annual Rice Paddy Art Project

The town of Gyoda, Japan, has put itself on the map with a sizable tradition. Every year, the village rallies volunteers to create a massive work of rice paddy art, also known as tanbo art. (Their efforts have even earned them a spot in the Guinness World Records for the World’s Largest Rice Paddy Art.) Always up for a challenge, the organizers select a different theme each year.

The art fair Frieze Seoul recently concluded its 2026 edition, but its influence doesn’t end there. Frieze House Seoul will bring together two exhibitions that consider humanity’s relationship with the natural world. 26 Islamic Art Masterpieces From the Louvre Are Coming to the Smithsonian

For the first time, 26 masterpieces from the Louvre’s renowned collection of Islamic art will travel to the United States. From the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art opens September 26, 2026, at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C. The exhibition brings together works created between the seventh and nineteenth centuries. They span a vast geographic area, from Spain to India.
