Artist Uses Japanese Art of Kintsugi to Fill in Basketball Court’s Cracks With Gold

Artist Victor Solomon looks to basketball as a vessel for his creativity. Through his ongoing project titled Literally Balling, he explores the “icons and totems” of the sport and adds opulence to them in unexpected ways. His latest endeavor called Kintsugi Court is the epitome of this idea. Inspired by the Japanese technique of kintsugi, Solomon repaired a crumbling basketball court by placing gold in its cracks. Kintsugi has a long history in Japanese culture.

Photographer Mathieu Stern creates striking, often surreal portraits using a variety of vintage lenses and digital techniques. The popular art challenge encourages illustrators to recreate art in their own way, and Stern thought it would be interesting to see how artists would translate his photography into digital art.

Illustrator Reimagines His Favorite Movies as Classic Paperback Books

Designer and illustrator Matt Stevens has designed for magazines and media companies, but his recent project titled Good Movies as Old Books is more personal. Stevens transformed one hundred of his favorite films into colorful and worn book covers—some complete with price tags, as if you could pick them up off the shelves of a used bookstore. Each reimagined paperback's title and author is represented by the movie's respective title and director.
