When you’re feeling down, sometimes the only place you want to be is in your own bed. Even if you aren’t sleeping, there’s something comforting and restorative about spending time wrapped up in bed sheets, hidden from the world. Artist Stephanie Serpick’s photorealistic oil paintings of empty, unmade beds are a personal expression of her own grief, depression, and isolation. Serpick started the series 3 years ago, shortly after the 2016 U.S. election.

Giant Skeletons Emerge from the Streets of Mexico for Día de los Muertos

Mexico City is gearing up for its annual Day of the Dead celebrations and in one neighborhood, something strange is emerging from the city streets. In the Tláhuac municipality, two giant skeletons have burst through the asphalt, resting their weary limbs on the pavement. Measuring over 11 feet wide and 7 feet tall, the sculptures are welcome forebearers of the annual celebrations that take place on November 1 and November 2.

Majestic Creatures Drawn in Colorful Zentangle Patterns Pop Off the Page

Inspired by the meditative method of zentangle art, 18-year-old Maldives-based artist Mahi Abdul draws pattern-adorned animals and fantasy creatures that look like they could come to life at any second. From a dragon-like chameleon with decorative scales to a majestic phoenix with vibrant plumage, it’s hard to believe each incredibly detailed piece is drawn entirely by hand. “Zentangling has taught me so much about myself,” reveals Abdul.
