Interview: Creative Ceramicist Sculpts 100 Unique Clay Vessels in 100 Days

While you may have heard of daily drawing challenges such as Inktober, British ceramicist Anna Whitehouse took the popular concept a step further by setting her own unique experimental project. Starting from January 1, 2018 she decided to create a decorative clay bottle every day for 100 days. Each white vessel is uniformly shaped and sized, however, Whitehouse explored new ideas by creating a different surface pattern design each time.

Artist Transforms Victorian Portraits Into Modern Pop Culture Trading Cards

Artist Alex Gross transforms 19th-century portraits into amusing mashups with iconic figures of popular culture. Using the sepia-toned photographs as his initial inspiration, Gross paints on cabinet cards (these were a style of portraits mounted on a 4.25-inch by 6.5-inch sheet that had widespread appeal after 1870). When he’s done, the anonymous men and women from yesteryear are retro versions of superheroes, villains, and famous figures from pop culture. Gross is enamored with the past.

Artist Handwrites Entire Scripts to Create Unique Portraits of Movie Characters

Many art mediums require plenty of patience and concentration, but artist Mike Matola shows a whole new level of creative endurance. He creates pop-culture posters by handwriting entire scripts and song lyrics to form the images. By drawing upon the positive and negative space, each silhouetted word art portrait is brought to life, line by line. Matola’s collection of typography posters include handwritten depictions of popular actors, musicians, and fictional characters.
