1,700-Year-Old Roman Mosaic Discovered During City Sewer Construction Project

News of the discovery of a massive 1,700 year-old Roman mosaic was recently released to the public and press. The extensive and detailed mural is thought to have served as the living room floor in a villa of a luxurious and affluent neighbourhood during the Roman and Byzantine periods. Initially, a Northern section of the complex was uncovered in the 90's within ruins of the Israeli central city of Lod.

Adriatic Sea’s Natural Rhythm Makes Music Through 230-Ft Organ

Croatian architect Nikola Baic is collaborating with the Adriatic sea to make mellifluous music. In 2005, he designed a 230-foot morse orgulje (or sea organ) that uses the rhythm of the waves to play a melody. On the surface, this creation may look like an ordinary set of white stone steps, but it's actually covered in various holes. These openings lead to chambers within the instrument that connect to 35 organ pipes.

Floating Optical Illusions Created through Brilliantly Painted Layers of Glass

Glass painter Wilfired Grootens is an artist from the German countryside with a very unique style. Using delicate swirls and tendrils painted onto layers of laminate glass, he assembles dozens of sheets together, and then sands them down to produce vivid three-dimensional paintings that appear to float in mid-air. When examined from different angles, his sculptures vary, perspective playing a huge role in each piece to successfully meld art with optical illusion.
