Magnificent Outdoor Cathedral Formed from Living Trees

Located at the foot of Mount Arera on the outskirts of Bergamo in northern Italy, a spectacular outdoor cathedral formed from rows of trees has become a place of pilgrimage for tourists, art lovers, and spiritual visitors alike. Called the Cattedrale Vegetale (also known as the Tree Cathedral), this magnificent work by Italian artist Giuliano Mauri is one of the most impressive examples of “natural architecture” in the world.

Luscious Green Grass Fills Gallery with Gentle Rolling Hills

With grass so lusciously green, it's almost hard to believe that this artwork existed indoors! Earlier this year, Norway-based creative Per Kristian Nygrd filled the space of the Noplace gallery in Oslo with a rolling lawn that cascaded from nearly a ceiling-height and ended at the edge of a doorway. It was titled Not Red But Green and brought the outdoors inside. Nygrd's incredible piece looks especially tranquil set against the bright white walls.

Modern Sculptures Depict Ancient Terracotta Warriors as Pop-Culture Icons

In a whimsical twist on ancient artwork, a terracotta army of sculptures re-imagines cartoon characters as stoic heroes. San Francisco-based artist Lizabeth Eva Rossof designed the army and hired an authentic terracotta-warrior replicator to manufacture the figures. Rossof's sculptures are comprised of the same materials as the iconic army guarding the tomb of China's first emperor in Xi'an.

Hand-Carved Wooden Sculpture of a Monk Distorted by Glitches

Perth, Australia-based artist Paul Kaptein explores themes of emptiness and time in his new sculpture titled and in the endless sounds there came a pause. Hand-carved from jelutong, a Malaysian wood, the work depicts a monk-like figure sitting in a meditative pose, his body and features distorted by a powerful and visually arresting “glitch” effect.
