Lifelike Sculptures Intricately Carved from Recycled Books

Although New York-based artist Long-bin Chen‘s incredibly realistic sculptures appear to be made from stone or marble, the unique busts are actually carved from recycled paper. Chen, who was born and raised in Taiwan, uses discarded materials like books and magazines to carefully sculpt the heads of cultural figures from the East and the West, including Buddhas, Japanese warriors, ancient Greek philosophers, and other great thinkers of the past.

Los Angeles-based artist Alexa Meade is known for mind-blowing 3D paintings that trick the eye into seeing flat images. The renowned artist turns the classical concept of trompe l'oeil–the art of making a two-dimensional representation look three-dimensional–on its head, working in the opposite direction to collapse depth and make her living models into seemingly flat works of art.

Incredibly Detailed Ink Drawings of Winged Insects by Alex Konahin

We've been following the fine art illustrations of Latvia-based Alex Konahin for quite some time. He first caught our attention with his incredibly detailed ink illustrations of patterns that seemed to pop off the page. We were in complete disbelief that these weren't three-dimensional. Then, in his surreal Anatomy series, he left us spell-binded as we saw the heart, lungs and stomach like we'd never seen drawn before.
