Colorful Glass House Sculpture Dazzles in New York

Check out those rainbow reflections! For this year's DUMBO Arts Festival, artist Tom Fruin and performance duo CoreAct presented a collaborative project called Reflection / Kolonihavehus in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Fruin's colorful plexiglass house, called Kolonihavehus, was on display. In previous years, the outdoor sculpture had been shown throughout Europe, such as in Sweden, Denmark, Austria and the Czech Republic. New York had already seen one of Fruin's pieces, the monumental sculpture, Watertower.

130 Suspended Toy Guns Form a Map of the USA

Artist Michael Murphy is back with yet another clever yet controversial piece! (Who could forget the assault rifle made up of 1200 ping pong balls?) For the open art competition ArtPrize this year, he's created Gun Country, a site specific installation that consists of 130 toy guns. The large installation can currently be found on the terrace of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.

Translucent Paint Layers Capture the Energy of Ocean Waves

Cambridge-based visual artist Lia Melia creates strikingly energetic paintings where curling and crashing ocean waves splash and splatter across the canvas. Having grown up near the sea, that is where artist Lia Melia continues to find her inspiration. “The seas moods can always express my deepest feelings,” she explains. Melia uses a technique that is unique to her work in which she bakes powder pigments and paints onto a sheet of aluminum or glass.

Gorgeous Paintings Meticulously Crafted with a Cat Hair Paintbrush

Olena Skytsiuk is a Ukrainian artist who paints gorgeous folk-inspired works with an unusual brush. A special handmade tool is created with cat's hair that's then used to produce artworks that consist of thousands of small strokes. The meticulous nature of these paintings result in lusciously-colored nature scenes and decorative floral arrangements that seamlessly flow throughout the composition.
