10,000 Hanging Garments Encourage People to Recycle

Fashion department store Marks & Spencer launched its project called Shwopping, a portmanteau of shopping and swapping, in an effort to recycle clothing and decrease waste. The project, which they refer to as a revolution, seeks to draw attention to the amount of clothing that's discarded every day in the UK and make a conscious effort to reverse this wasteful habit.

In all the years that we've been running My Modern Met, if there's one trend that stood out from the rest, it's art made out of books. Remember Guy Laramee, the artist who meticulously carves out encyclopedias to create incredible landscapes or Brian Dettmer, aka The Book Surgeon, the man who uses knives, tweezers and surgical tools to form unbelievable sculptures? Rachael Ashe is an emerging, self-taught artist who also sees the beauty in books.

Radiant Shoe Lace Murals Explode with Color

If you liked artist Federico Uribe's Pencilism sculptures and paintings, you'll get a kick out of his creative shoe lace art. The inspired artist simply loves to work with multihued ordinary objects, as evidenced in these series of works aptly titled Shoe Laces. The massive murals are, on average, approximately six feet in height and made of a wide array of shoe laces, varying in length.

Spiderwebs Transformed into Colorful Works of Art

Can you believe these colorful mesh sculptures are actually spiderwebs? Chicago native Anthony Michael Simon first discovered the artistry of the silk-producing arachnids while trekking through a forest in Korea, where he is currently based, looking for a location for his next sculptural art installation. He came across a huge spiderweb and it somehow clicked in his mind that he could catch spiders and have them naturally spin their webs in his studio.
