Mesmerizing Halftone Sculptures Made From Hundreds of Metal Pipes

Sculptor Yi Chul Hee is known for his incredible sculptures that activate public space. He uses tightly stacked metal pipes that are then cut at interesting angles to achieve sculptures of the human form, life-sized animals, and even abstract art. The nature of the material and method of stacking creates a mesmerizing play of light and shadow that often translates to the halftone style of drawing used in comic books.

Classical Marble Sculptures Recreated With a Contemporary Suit of Tattoos

Displayed throughout Piazza del Duomo in the Tuscan town of Pietrasanta, ancient marble sculptures aren’t quite what they seem. They were placed there by Italian artist Fabio Viale as part of his Truly exhibition, curated by Enrico Mattei. The statues are no ordinary stone figures though—they’re all “tattooed.” Viale’s fascination with tattoos began when he met a Russian tattoo artist whose hands were full of “odd” symbols.

Life-Size Human Sculptures Reveal the “Inner Light” of Body and Soul

Filipino artist Joshua Limon Palisoc creates figurative sculptures that not only explore the exterior of the human body but also shine a light on people's inner life. He uses soldered metal to construct life-size pieces that are illuminated from inside by LED strips. The intentional gaps between the wires allow the radiance of the soul to peer through the body.
