Designer Spends a Year Creating Logos That Subtly Reveal the Meaning of Words

Art director Daniel Carlmatz looks at language as more than just words on a page. For one year (November 2016 to November 2017), the Swedish creative challenged himself to visual wordplay by turning otherwise ordinary terms into playful logos. He did so by manipulating letterforms and incorporating a few clever additions to the minimalist compositions. Though subtle, the results are ingenious. Carlmatz’s minimalist designs reveal the definition of the word it is illustrating.

Artist Reorganizes Found Organic Objects Into Visually Satisfying Arrangements

Connecticut-based prop stylist and designer Kristen Meyer creates geometric flat lay art using found organic materials. From broken pieces of egg shells and crackers to flower petals, pebbles, and leaves, Meyer creates mesmerizing patterns by meticulously placing each piece inside perfect circles and squares. Each satisfying composition is set against pastel-colored backgrounds, where Meyer’s clever use of negative space completes the shapes, through the suggestion of crisp geometric boundaries.

Electric Vespa Reimagines Classic Italian Vehicle With a Futuristic Twist

Italian industrial designer Giulio Iacchetti gives a nod to the original 1946 Vespa with his concept for a sleek, minimalist electric bike. The beloved Italian scooter is reimagined as the Vespampère, with Iacchetti linking past and present for a forward-thinking vehicle designed for better riding in urban environments. Over the years, the Vespa has become increasingly bulky, but Iacchetti's proposed electric motor allows him to remove lateral side panels for a slimmed down version.

Limited Edition Doc Martens Pay Homage to Great British Painters

Dr. Martens has transformed some of their most classic shoe models into canvases for classic works of art thanks to a collaboration with Tate Britain. As part of the ongoing “artist series,” Dr. Martens' 1460 boots and 1461 shoes are decorated with artwork by masters like Hieronymous Bosch and William Hogarth. There's even a pair stamped with a painting of George the Dragon, in homage to England's patron saint.
