Designers Create Real Observation Beehive You Can Mount on Your Wall at Home

With an aim to “help reconnect individuals with the nature of food,” eco-driven designers Dustin Betz and Mike Zaengle created BEEcosystem, a modular observation beehive. The hexagonal honeycomb-inspired structure can be mounted to walls (indoors or outdoors) and features a see-through front so that users can watch and learn about their resident honeybees. Unlike existing, fixed-sized observation hives, the BEEcosystem is modular, allowing the user to expand their hive by attaching additional magnetic HexHive bodies.

Photographer Turns Six Years of Documenting Storms into One Mesmerizing Time-Lapse Film

Some creative endeavors are weeks or months in the making. But for photographer Chad Cowan, his incredible time lapse project took over half a decade to complete. In collaboration with editor Kevin X Barth, the short film Fractal features hundreds of thunderstorms that are condensed into one mesmerizing piece. The result is storm photography that highlights the inherent duality of nature—its ability to destroy as well as rebuild.

IKEA Releases DIY Instructions to Create Your Own Globe-Shaped Greenhouse

Last year, we shared our excitement over the Growroom, a spherical and sustainable solution to urban farming designed by Space10 (a “future-living lab” launched by IKEA in 2015). It was merely a highly anticipated prototype at the time; however, IKEA has made it a reality. The innovative furniture retailer recently released instructions allowing anyone to build their own DIY greenhouse.
