Modern Home Features a Staircase Designed Specifically for Small Pets

Architect Joe Chikamori of 07BEACH has outdone himself when it comes to producing a pet-friendly home. In the span of only 49 days, the architect was able to redesign his friend's Vietnam-based residence by installing several modern features. The most interesting installation: a separate staircase for his friend's small dogs. When deciding what to change during the planning stage, Chikamori's priority was to make the house comfortable for the entire family–furry friends and all.

Rubik’s Cube-Shaped Table Uses Strong Magnets to Look like It's Floating

The Float table is a piece of furniture comprised of a matrix of wooden blocks that seem to levitate in perfect alignment. At first glance, this Rubik's Cube-looking counter looks like it's engineered by pure magic, but the secret to its construction is magnets! Brooklyn-based designers RockPaperRobot magnetized each each cube so that they repel one another; and to keep the blocks from floating away, they are held by a system of tensile steel cables.

Outdoor Geometric Structure is the World’s First Hanging Zome

Using mathematical formulas and patterns, structural engineer Richie Duncan invented the Kodama Zome, which is the world's first hanging zome. A zome is a building or structure that features unusual geometric properties, combining aspects of a dome with the shapes of a polygon known as a zonohedron. Traditionally, zomes around the world are located on the ground, but Kodama Zomes are similar to hammocks in that they are a hanging private space.

Dad Turns Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon Cockpit Into Awesome Bed for His Son

Designer Edward McGowan of PlainJoe Studios recently shared a photo of a Star Wars-themed bedroom that's built for kids but will undoubtedly have adults wanting to live in it, too. His brother Peter McGowan, an architect and interior designer, built it for his son. The room's centerpiece is the impressive bed. It's a mashup of a Millennium Falcon cockpit with a leg from an AT-AT used for support.
