For over a decade, photographer Beth Moon has made it her mission to document the biggest, oldest, and rarest of the bunch. Using that criteria as her guide, it led her on a journey around the world. Crossing desolate mountainsides, private estates, and protected lands, she found these gentle giants and photographed them in majestic portraits.

After a knee injury slowed down her burgeoning dance career, Manhattanite Vivian Cherry turned to photography. It was an exciting time in New York City, as World War II caused a shift that moved the cultural heart of the world from Europe to New York. And Cherry, now 97 years old, was there to capture it all. Cherry honed her photography skills as an assistant in a darkroom.

His growing portfolio of surreal photography sees wild animals and domestic pets as monstrous beasts that prowl freely through city streets and dreamlike landscapes. Mani’s photo manipulations often place the giant creatures next to human explorers who are dwarfed by the animal’s huge size.
