Scorched Wooden Sculptures Metamorphosize After Fire

Italy-based sculptor Aron Demetz constructs life-sized figurative wooden sculptures and sets them ablaze. On their own, before they are scorched, the stoic human figures are presented in a variety of poses that appear to be rather classic. Though their anatomic construction is impressive, it's after their dematerialization that viewers are offered something far more emotional.

Massive New Head Sculpture You Can Walk Through

Spanish artist Jaume Plensa recently unveiled a giant new sculpture called Wonderland at the base of Calgary's tallest tower, The Bow. The wire mesh piece stands 39 feet high and resembles a young girl's head. (It was actually inspired by a real girl in Spain.) Interestingly, the sculpture has two entrances so that visitors can walk inside of it.

Out of Place Photo Manipulations with a Hilarious Dark Twist

At first glace, these scenes might not seem out of the ordinary. In fact, they initially come across as quite mundane suburban landscapes. It takes a moment to identify exactly what is out of place, but, once you do, these hilarious photo manipulations, by photographer Robert Rickhoff, will certainly make you chuckle. Based in Germany, the artist has transformed otherwise boring photos into a completely nonsensical and outrageous series entitled Out of Place.

Intricate Paper Art Mimics Fine Lace

When viewing artist Karen Bit Vejle's work, you might think you are looking at delicate pieces of lace fabric. In reality, though, the Norway-based artist carefully hand-cuts each pattern out of paper, using only a pair of scissors. Psaligrafi, or the art of papercutting, is a complex art form that requires patience and intense skill.
