Land Artist Arranges Stunning Square Compositions With Found Rocks

For years, artist Jon Foreman has spotlighted the organic shapes found in nature. In his breathtaking land art, Foreman takes colorful beach rocks, molded by thousands of years by the seaside, and creates geometric patterns with them. Although he has created countless circular, swirling shapes, Foreman recently decided to experiment with more rigid compositions, laying the rocks within invisible square frames.

Every January 1 is Public Domain Day, as the copyright on many works of art expires and they are released onto the public domain. With this, they become free to enjoy, share, and reuse for any purpose by anyone. In 2025, this includes works published in 1929 for the United States, as well as creations by artists who passed away in 1954 for countries with a copyright term of “life plus 70 years.

Artist Turns Icy Landscape Into Ephemeral Art Inspired by Spiral Forms of Ammonites [Interview]

Artist David Popa is known for his extraordinary earth murals. Using natural materials, he creates stunning ephemeral pieces that slowly blend back into the Earth. For one of his latest projects, he was inspired by nature itself, specifically the spiral form of ammonites. These prehistoric shelled cephalopods died out about 66 million years ago, but their fossils can be found around the world.
