New Reality-Flipping Photos by Erik Johansson

Expecting Winter

Photographer and artist Erik Johansson has always been a cut above the rest. The Berlin-based creative is a master at photo manipulation, where he takes photos of everyday life and retouches them to make them appear not of this world. As he states, “I don't capture moments, I capture ideas. To me photography is just a way to collect material to realize the ideas in my mind.”

Throughout the years we've seen his client list grow to include such tech heavyweights as Google, Adobe and Microsoft but it's always been his personal work that has had us coming back for more. The self-taught artist is meticulous when it comes to assembling his shots. He never uses stock photography because, as he states, “I always want to be in complete control of my photos and feel like I've done everything myself. It limits me in a way that I can't realize all ideas I have, but limitations are good sometimes to define the work. A similar light and perspective is extremely important to create a realistic result when combining the photos.”

Here are some fantastic works that Johansson has created throughout the past few years. Notice how he almost always incorporates elements of nature such as water, snow or land.
