Recently, Alfonso Zubiaga showed us that New York could emanate some incredible energy. But how do you capture that intensity among a collection of people…or crowds? Well, if you're Edouardo Mortec, you walk the busy streets of Paris and, using the multiple exposure technique, you snap away…
“Initially there was something disturbing looking at the crowd, it was echoing something dark and fuzzy,” he tells us. “I realized those massese of people could represent, in a manner, the multiple energy trapped in me and, at the same time, I could see myself in each individual lost in his mind and the flow of the urban life.
“It was a little bit mystical.
“I found that the multiple exposures, the accumulation of many images, was the best way to approach this subject because a crowd is an accumulation of people. I wanted, too, to confront abstract to figurative in the same image; as you can see the passers by seem stranger to the abstract world they evolve in but represents the spiritual for me.”
