Artist in the Process of Going Deaf Creates Scenes of Resilience With Her Monumental Murals [Interview]

One of the first things Nico Cathcart noticed were the birds: theyโ€™d somehow gone silent. Even though she could see them soaring above her, their beaks shaped into chirps, she wasnโ€™t able to hear them. By her 20s, sheโ€™d been officially diagnosed with a degenerative cochlear condition. Today, birds figure strongly within Cathcartโ€™s monumental art and murals, not only as reminders of the artistโ€™s disability but, more importantly, as symbols of resilience.

35,000-Square-Foot Butterfly Mural on Miami Rooftop Adds Pop of Color to the City Skyline

French artist Mantra, whose real name is Youri Cansell, recently took on the most ambitious project of his careerโ€”a 35,000 square foot mural, which represents his largest project in scale to-date. By doing this, he has also created Miami's largest rooftop mural, adding a pop of color to the city skyline and sending a message about nature with the help of the hyperrealistic butterflies found throughout his oeuvre.
