Beautiful Wood Panel Paintings by May Ann Licudine

For the recent October 17th show at Swoon Gallery in Los Angeles, artist May Ann Licudine (aka Mall) created some beautiful wood panel paintings. Her works are made of acrylic and wood, which she gets from a local lumber shop. Originally from La Union, Philippines, Mall began using wood as a medium back in 2004, when she first discovered the works of Audrey Kawasaki. (One of our favorite artists!)

Giant Mushroom Upside Down Sculptures by Carsten Holler

Originally trained as a scientist with a doctorate in biology, Belgium-born Carsten Holler is inspired by research experiments and the world around him. His works reflect social spaces like amusement parks, the zoo or a playground but he puts an expected twist onto each of them. One of the subjects he's always centered on has been mushrooms. Since 1994, they've been a regular feature in his works.

130 Suspended Toy Guns Form a Map of the USA

Artist Michael Murphy is back with yet another clever yet controversial piece! (Who could forget the assault rifle made up of 1200 ping pong balls?) For the open art competition ArtPrize this year, he's created Gun Country, a site specific installation that consists of 130 toy guns. The large installation can currently be found on the terrace of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.

Little Moments of Everyday "Love" by Simone Massoni

Over the last year, illustrator Simone Massoni has been partnering with The New Yorker  in creating fun works for their magazine. When art director Chris Curry called Simone to ask him if he was available to explore the theme Love (and Old Flames) for their June 9th & 16th issue, he jumped at the chance. “I guess she maybe thought my style was a good fit for the occasion,” he humbly states.
