Beautiful Bird’s Eye View Photography

Red Car with Five Flowering Trees

Klaus Leidorf takes aerial photography to “scary” new heights. Ask him how he gets his stunning shots and he'll tell you that he's a pilot of a Cessna 172 and that he takes pictures and steers at the same time. How? “The plane can be steered by my feet and then I open the window to photograph,” he says. Using his DSLR cameras (EOS 1DS Mark III and EOS 5D Mark II) along with several different lenses, he captures earth's incredible details from the sky.

Most of these images were taken in Bavaria, South Germany. See how he's able to find patterns and pick out pops of color from a bird's eye view perspective. “For me, the challenge is to capture the combination of the beauty of nature, the graphic aspect and the emotion,” he tells us.

And as for tips he could give to aspiring aerial photographers? “Keep your eyes open and think out-of-the-box,” he says. “Important are upmarket lenses with an image stabilizer and a steady hand.”
