RIP Balkrishna Doshi: Remembering “India’s Greatest Architect”

Visionary architects design buildings which speak for themselves. From towering concrete pillars to sculptural modernist domes, the work of Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi defined Indian architecture for the latter half of the 20th century. Known as B.V. Doshi, the acclaimed modernist architect—and first Indian winner of the Pritzker Prize—designed everything from accessible housing projects to the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore.

Located at the fictional address of 742 Evergreen Terrace, the two-story detached house has served as a backdrop for many of the TV family's adventures and shenanigans. Lush Roof at Japan’s Dazaifu Tenmangu Is Inspired by the Legend of the “Flying Plum Tree”

Over the course of three years, this important cultural monument will undergo critical maintenance and reconstruction. Cafe Is a “Staircase to the Sky” To Enjoy Japan’s Beautiful Tottori Sand Dunes

Architecture firm Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA) has designed a cafe and observation tower to overlook the Tottori Sand Dunes. Located in Japan, these dunes stretch for nine miles and provide inspiration for the structure. Described by the firm as a “staircase to the sky,” the Tottori Takahama Café is a hybrid structure made from cross-laminated timber and reinforced concrete. The final effect is a sleek, modern design that also blends into its natural surroundings.
