Giant Honeycomb ‘Vessel’ Opens to the Public at NYC’s Hudson Yards

Less than three years after revealing plans for the showstopping centerpiece of New York City's Hudson Yards, Thomas Heatherwick‘s Vessel is officially open to the public. Rising up like a giant honeycomb, this Escher-like structure is an eye-catching piece of architecture that is sure to become one of Manhattan's iconic monuments. Composed of 154 intricately interwoven staircases, Vessel rises up 150 feet and when populated by pedestrians it really does appear like a hive of activity.

Damien Hirst Fills a Massive Las Vegas Suite with His Eccentric Works of Art

Two bull sharks suspended in formaldehyde is just one of the artworks awaiting guests who stay in a suite in Las Vegas’ Palms Casino Resort. The massive two-story Sky Villa, called Empathy Suite, is clad in over-the-top decor that was designed by British artist Damien Hirst and firm Bentel & Bentel. It features six standalone artworks by Hirst, including a diamond-filled pill cabinet and flooring inlaid with butterflies.

Abandoned Airport Terminal Given New Life as a Retro-Inspired Luxury Hotel

New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport has a new addition that's a blast from the past. The airport recently introduced its first on-airport hotel that pays homage to the former Trans World Airlines (TWA). Once one of the country's largest airlines, it began operations in 1930 and shuttered its doors in 2001; the Flight Center at JFK closed that same year. The expansive space has since been repurposed into a luxury accommodation aptly called TWA Hotel.
