Vibrant Bird Paintings Capture the Beauty of Feathered Friends in Flight

Capturing a bird mid-flight is difficult enough with a camera, but English artist Jamel Akib manages to do so with oil paint. From hummingbirds to blue tits, each vibrant painting beautifully captures the energetic flutter of birds through thick brushstrokes and expressive mark-making. Akib has a background in illustration, having previously worked for the London Observer newspaper while still a student at art college.

Clever Rotating Mirror Installation Reflects Different Views of Venice’s Doge’s Palace

In an effort to transform our vision of well-worn architecture, French design Arnaud Lapierre has created a moving art installation in the heart of Venice. Using sixteen round mirrors that slowly turn in synchronicity, Lapierre breaks apart some of Venice's most famous buildings. These fragments then bounce back and completely disarm our sensibilities. Lapierre's contemporary installation, AZIMUT, was originally installed on the Riva degli Schiavoni, just in front of the Doge's Palace, in late February.

Cartoonist Reimagines ‘Where’s Waldo’ in the Age of Social Distancing

As a kid, the Where’s Waldo series of picture books presented a challenge even for the most eagle-eyed reader. Finding Waldo among seemingly countless people took intense concentration. But as adults in the midst of a pandemic with suggested social distancing (aka physical distancing), we now look at the book and its crowds in a different light. Tapping into this sentiment is cartoonist Clay Bennett.
