Artist Designs Machine You Crank to Earn Minimum Wage, One Penny at a Time

Conceptual artist Blake Fall-Conroy creates work that often touches on socio-economic themes. As a self-taught engineer, many of his art pieces involve mechanisms that allow him to get his point across. This is most evident in his Minimum Wage Machine, a lightning-rod installation that speaks about the value of labor and one's time. People are asked to turn a crank that will then release a penny at specific intervals.

A Detailed Look at Bernini’s Most Dramatically Lifelike Marble Sculpture

In the 17th century, artists in Italy began embracing an increasingly elaborate style. Known as the Baroque movement, this shift toward an ornate, over-the-top aesthetic is evident in both the art and architecture of the time, with master of materials Gian Lorenzo Bernini at the forefront. In addition to designing St. Peter’s Basilica (one of Italy's most important monuments), Bernini was a celebrated sculptor, with The Rape of Proserpina among his most treasured creations.

Amazing Collection of Michelangelo Drawings Is Now in the U.S. For the First Time

A trove of rare Michelangelo drawings is now in the United States for the first time. On loan from the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands, the amazing cache features 25 individual sheets, nearly all of which contain artwork on both sides of the page. They go well beyond doodles, though. The collection, originating from the Queen Christina of Sweden, includes the likes of preparatory drawings for the Sistine Chapel.
