Interview: Intricately Cut and Layered Glass Silhouettes Reveal 3D Human Forms

At the intersection of art, science, and technology, Jed Malitz creates life-size glass sculptures of human figures within architectural forms. The New Orleans-based artist describes his works as “4D sculptures of cut glass and refracted light,” illustrating how each subject is defined both physically and non-physically through glass silhouettes and their refracted light. The silhouettes, which are based on live-subject 3D photography, suggest the physical outlines of people through holes cut into architectural glass panels.

Wilderness Scenes Illustrated within Striking Animal Silhouettes

So Paulo, Brazil-based illustrator Thiago Bianchini pays tribute to the beauty of nature in his striking drawings of wildlife and landscapes framed within larger animal silhouettes. Using fine-tipped ink pens, Bianchini brings flora and fauna to life through intricate drawing and shading techniques like stippling. Pitch-black trees, grass, and four-legged creatures contrast sharply with craggy mountains and inky skies formed of thousands of tiny dots.

Photographers Cleverly Remake Old Master Paintings

In 2011, Booooooom creator Jeff Hamada began The Remake Project, a competition that challenged professional and amateur artists to recreate their favorite old master paintings as contemporary photographs. The results were fantastic, as creatives painted their bodies, concocted elaborate sets, and struck a pose just like their classic counterparts. Several years later, this project has taken its next logical step as a publication released through Chronicle Books titled Remake: Master Works of Art Reimagined.
