Classic Fairy Tale Characters Crawl Out of Their Storybooks

Reading fairy tales can awaken a child's creative senses as they imagine the characters popping out of the books. With these Altered Books sculptures by Susan Hoerth, aka Raidersofthelostart, it becomes a reality. The Texas-based artist collects vintage, discarded books and redesigns them into wonderfully imaginative sculptures reflecting the stories they hold within their text.

Photographer Lights Up Graffiti with LED Photons

Photo enthusiast Jayson Hay combines his love of graffiti and his passion for light painting in this awesome series he cleverly calls Photon Vandalism. Though he simply states it as “Killing the night with light,” the series is much more complicated than that. His set of 40 photos is the work of over three years of trial and error as he attempted to capture graffiti in a way that had never been done before.

Giant Sculpture of a Man Made of Letters

Spanish artist Jaume Piensa's sculptural installation titled Nomade, translated as Nomad, is a literal man of steel. The figurative sculpture displays a gigantic replica of a man sitting with his knees to his chest. The painted stainless steel figure is left incomplete, without a discernible face, feet, or hands, as a sign of welcoming spectators in, literally.

Intricate Textured Paintings Resemble Coral Reefs

Using rolls of paper and acrylic on canvas, Amy Eisenfeld Genser creates textures and patterns against rich backgrounds that resemble underwater scenes. Each piece is reflective of the stony corals and polyps that one might see while scuba diving near a coral reef. The Connecticut-based artist says, “The sources of my work are textures, patterns, and grids. I look for forms that can be repeated to create a pattern when they are joined.
