Quirky Blob Characters Comes to Life in Charming Fusion of Ceramic and Glass Sculptures

Almost anything can become a cartoon when you give it eyes and legs. The same can be said for a chunk of ceramic or glass. Sweden-based artist Benjamin Uggla creates playful blob-like characters that have sprouted arms, legs, and eyes. While they possess an alien appearance, they are rendered doing a range of everyday human activities, like playing video games and using the computer, making them somehow relatable.

The Korean artist specializes in unique three-dimensional portraits made from bicycle chains. By interlocking metal links together, he creates mesmerizing sculptures with a fascinating, puzzle-like texture. In addition to its versatile usage, Seo uses bicycle chains for symbolic reasons. Just like parts of a machine, these metal pieces represent our unbreakable ties to modern industrialization.

Just as tress will sometimes burst through the sidewalk in a cramped city, resilient flora erupt from porcelain vessels in Patrick Bergsma‘s work. The Netherlands-based artist uses a mix of dead bonsai trees and found pottery to create dynamic sculptures which explore the history of porcelain and the power of nature. The series, titled Expanding China, was sparked by Bergsma's interest in antiques.
